A celebration of Christina Porter's life was most successful, and funding activities will continue as will be announced here. We thank everyone who attended the February 8, 2005, Benefit and/or contributed to the Christina Fund for Head Trauma. The event was cosponsored by Pratt Institute at the Pratt Manhattan Center,144 West 14th Street.

We continue to ask for your help due to a preventable skiing accident - within a beginning skiers` class - which forever altered the life and led to the eventual death of Christina Porter, Dartmouth College `06 and Saint Ann's School `02. A ski helmet was not required at the time of the accident. For information on Christina's medical and rehabilitation history as well as the continuing work of her fund, please visit the updates section.

What we have discovered is a serious unmet need for wearing ski helmets and for original research into the medical treatment of severe head trauma as well astherapeutic recovery methods. Just as serious is the insurance industry's lack of knowledge and coverage of experimental therapy and services, which patientssuch as Christina need to rebuild their shattered lives. In Christina's case, such industry neglect continues to threaten, even to end coverage for her continuing therapy. We sincerely hope you wish to help in either category, as follows:

Funding for (1) advocacy of preventive measures such as the mandatory use of helmets, the redesign of helmets and other protective design elements; and (2) research of treatment of severe head injuries, including but not limited to "cranialplasties," "shunt systems," "heat attacks," "muscle tone" and reeducation of patients through a variety of therapies such as music and art.

Funding to defray Christina's rising therapeutic and related expenses, as well as experimental music and art therapy in progress, modes of disability accommodation and adaptable transportation, and comprehensive therapy not covered by insurance.

Please RSVP and if you wish, indicate which funding category. Thank you very much for your generous contribution!
